Physiotherapy
The human repair service: Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy combines all active and passive forms of therapy. We will assess your complaints and functional or activity restrictions on the basis of a diagnosis. We primarily use manual skills in physiotherapy. As a patient, you will also be instructed to carry out movements independently in order to promote your own activity. This increases your performance and resilience and improves your quality of life in everyday life and leisure activities.
Physiotherapy helps patients with acute or chronic illnesses after an accident, as well as with disabilities. However, physiotherapy can also be used to maintain a healthy work-life balance and thus promote well-being and improved physical performance.
We are also happy to give you helpful tips for ergonomic behavior at the workplace or in everyday life.
In our physiotherapy practice in Basel, we look at people as a whole. That is why we also offer you a comprehensive range of therapies that have an effect in the physiological, psychological and energetic areas.
Manual therapy
Focus on the function of the joints: manual therapy
Manual therapy can be described as an extension of physiotherapy. It has its focus in orthopaedics
This efficient treatment method begins with a detailed examination of joint function, joint mechanics and muscular and passive structures. Joint-specific treatment takes place on the basis of such an individual examination.
This involves multiple minor, gentle, passive joint movements aimed at loosening restricted joints, improving range of motion and mobility and reducing pain sensitivity and toughness.
In order to improve and maintain joint function, an exercise programme is often developed, similar to traditional physiotherapy, to stabilize the joint and return it to its daily load-bearing capacity.
Manual therapy is necessary in combination with muscle stretching and strengthening to bring the body back into balance and thus be as pain-free as possible.
However, positive results should not always be equated with a cure. One special area of manual therapy is the treatment of CMD, or craniomandibular dysfunction.
CMD therapy
For temporomandibular joint problems: Special manual therapy for CMD
The temporomandibular joint and its disorders have increasingly become the focus of society and medicine in recent years.
The diagnosis "CMD (craniomandibular dysfunction) includes disorders of the joint, muscles, teeth and mechanical interaction. Symptoms include jaw clicking, reduced mouth mobility or pain. Night-time grinding or clenching often occurs, which puts a lot of strain on the muscles and joints. Those affected often complain of headaches or tinnitus as a result of the high muscle tension.
For us as therapists, however, the temporomandibular joint also plays an important role in a wider context. Because functionally, the temporomandibular joint and the cervical vertebrae inevitably belong together.
The therapy that we develop based on this can be complex. Several areas such as manual therapy, physiotherapy, ergonomics and massages can come into play.
Over the course of the sessions, the therapy plan is constantly adapted to the current progress.
Treatments are carried out in the area of the mouth, cervical spine, upper cervical joints, neck and the rest of the spine.
Classical and sports massage
The oldest form of therapy: massage
Nowadays we are often constantly stressed, so that mental tension, but also often as a result of diseases of the musculoskeletal system and organs, manifests itself in cramped, tense muscles.
If this condition persists, it leads to structural changes in the skin, muscle and connective tissue. Massages of the back are often so crucial because this is where the neural circuitry can influence other areas of the body.
A professionally precise massage stimulates the metabolism, blood circulation and lymph flow, loosens adhesions and structural changes in the tissue. It relaxes the muscles (including the deep muscle layers), the nervous system and promotes the flow of energy. Ultimately, it significantly reduces the subjective sensation of pain.
The sports massage is a supplement to the classic massage. It uses the techniques of classic massage as well as other supplementary techniques and is tailored to the needs of the athlete and the specific problems associated with sport. The massage is performed more vigorously in order to prepare the body for an upcoming physical exertion. Cramps that occur during sport can be treated with the stretching techniques that are part of the sports massage. After sport, the massage is more gentle regenerative and loosening.
Our massages are often used to support or accompany other forms of therapy.
The connective tissue massage
Deep stimulation
The connective tissue massage is one of the advanced forms of massage. Special massage techniques are used to loosen deep tissue, adhesions of skin and connective tissue and stimulate nerve fibers in the spine. It is precisely these fibers that, due to their interconnection at spinal cord level, supply not only certain areas of the skin but also various associated organs. For example, a diseased liver can make itself felt through back pain in a specific area. We stimulate these nerve fibers in a very targeted manner and thus achieve regulation of the autonomic nervous system. Our aim is to alleviate symptoms noticeably and sustainably
.
Deep stimulation during therapy can be painful and exhausting for the patient. In our experience, patients often become very tired afterwards. There is, of course, a logical explanation for this: this effect is caused by the dampening of the autonomic nervous system.
Manual lymphatic drainage
Relieves the congestion
Similar to connective tissue massage, lymphatic drainage is also a special form of massage treatment. It focuses on lymphatic congestion (water and protein retention) and releases it in a targeted manner. This treatment requires a high degree of sensitivity, in which various gentle massage and grip techniques transport the fluid accumulated in the tissue back into the lymphatic system and remove it.
We achieve a pain-relieving and healing effect by reducing swelling and can demonstrate long-term treatment success.
Lymphatic drainage can be used after traumatic events such as operations, sprains, ligament injuries or chronic illnesses such as the removal of lymph vessels as a result of cancer.
The manual trigger point massage
Hard but heartfelt
Trigger points are painful hardenings in the muscle abdomen caused by overloading or traumatic overstretching, which show an undersupply of oxygen. The affected muscles can no longer be tensed and cause radiating pain. The radiating area of each muscle that has a trigger point is defined. For example, headaches in the temples and eyes usually affect the trapezius muscle.
The effects of a trigger point are often radiating pain, unpleasant tingling in the arms and legs or muscle weakness.
These complaints can be resolved through targeted therapy.
Trigger point massage is best combined with classic massage. The muscle is warmed up by the massage. The painful point is then pressed with a small wooden stylus or thumb while the patient moves for around 25 seconds until the muscle belly softens. The muscle is then stretched to "straighten" the muscle fibers and the classic massage continues.
The therapy is very effective. 1 to 2 days after the treatment, the muscle or the local point may react somewhat more sensitively. It therefore makes sense to pay some attention to the hardened muscle and keep it soft and supple with regular stretching exercises.
Galileo® vibration training
The shaker that fixes everything
© Natascha Jansen Photography
The Galileo® vibration plate is a unique way to mobilize, stabilize and strengthen your body in the shortest possible time. Even astronauts use the Galileo®Vibration Plate to quickly rebuild their muscles that have melted away during space travel. On the Galileo®Vibration Plate, the exerciser is constantly brought out of balance with a frequency of 5 to 36 heartbeats through side-alternating movements. The body tries to counteract this through reflexive muscle contractions in order to regain balance.
The higher the training frequency, the longer and stronger the muscle contraction. This loosens the muscles at a low frequency and improves the interaction of the muscles and muscle fibers at a higher frequency. At a high frequency, the muscles have a continuous contraction and are thus strengthened.
Fast training success with short training times.

Galileo® vibration plate training is particularly gentle on the cardiovascular system and is a holistic, functional muscle workout that takes very little time. You can train power, strength, stretching ability, speed and balance in one go within a very short space of time. Just two training sessions per week are enough to achieve positive effects on your muscles and, in the longer term, on your bones. The Galileo® vibration plate training stimulates blood circulation and metabolism.
Especially for pelvic floor insufficiency, osteoporosis, back pain, joint instability (spine, foot, knee, hip, shoulder, etc.) as well as strokes and Parkinson's disease, Galileo® vibration plate training shows phenomenal results within a very short time.
MTT (medical training therapy)
The targeted functional and strength training
© Natascha Jansen Photography
We have an MTT room in our practice. This is a training room with various training devices to improve the patient's fitness, stabilization and strength. In MTT, patients relearn the functional movement sequences that they need in everyday life. Training therapy is therefore essential after prolonged immobilization due to illness or an accident in order to help the patient return to work, sport or activity. A lack of exercise or "permanent sitting" also weakens and shortens important postural muscles.
Targeted training is therefore essential to keep your body healthy and pain-free in everyday life.
In our MTT room, we have endurance equipment such as an ergometer and a cross trainer. A Galileo® vibration training plate, exercise, balls, mats, thera-bands, etc.
The heat application
Additional preparation for the therapy
The heat application is a heat pad and is used to achieve pain relief and relaxation and to prepare for further therapies. The packs are placed on the relevant parts of the body. You as the patient are wrapped in blankets for 20-30 minutes to achieve an optimal deep effect.
Electrotherapy and ultrasound therapy
Electrotherapy and ultrasound therapy are physical treatments that additionally support the body's own healing process, especially after treatment. The wound healing phase is accelerated and regeneration is faster
Current therapy: electrotherapy
Electrotherapy has a pain-relieving, activating and circulation-boosting, tone-reducing or pain-superimposing effect, depending on the form of current
.
Electrotherapy can also be used to stimulate muscles after operations (e.g. shoulder joint prosthesis, cruciate ligament, knee TEP, hip TEP...), paralysis and muscle injuries (muscle fiber tears and strains).
This results in better supply and disposal of cartilage and muscle tissue and a reduction in swelling or acute inflammatory conditions.
Gentle, pain-free therapy: ultrasound
Ultrasound is a high-frequency sound wave that cannot be felt and causes a deep micro-tissue massage, which increases the metabolic processes in the treated area. In other words, this results in increased tissue regeneration in the affected area. Ultrasound is therefore often used for chronic muscle and tendon pain (e.g. tennis elbow, heel spur, torn ligaments...), but also for bruising, scars and connective tissue adhesions.
Kinesio tape
Kinesio tape is an elastic adhesive plaster,
a type of elastic, therapeutic adhesive tape that can be applied to selected areas of the body.
It supports the muscles to reduce tension or increase tension.
Joints can be stabilized without restricting the range of motion. It can also be used to reduce swelling, bruising and pain.
This type of tape is an effective method of effectively promoting the healing process and achieving the desired therapeutic success more quickly.
The BEMER® vascular therapy
General cleansing of the capillaries
Bemer® physical vascular therapy improves microcirculation and promotes blood flow in the smallest blood vessels (capillaries). This improves the performance of the body's cells, which helps to alleviate pain and promotes the body's own self-healing powers
Circulation is the supply system of the human body. It supplies the tissues and organs with nutrients and oxygen. At the same time, waste products are removed and disposed of. 75% of this process takes place in the capillaries.
Pain therapy according to Liebscher & Bracht (LNB®)
The highly efficient method...
Liebscher and Bracht pain therapy is an independent method for treating pain. It is based on over 25 years of development and practical experience by Dr. Petra Bracht and Roland Liebscher-Bracht. Up to 95% of all pain patients have significantly less pain after LNB treatment or are even pain-free without medication or surgery.
The effectiveness of the therapy is due to the realization that it is not wear and tear or damage that causes the pain, but rather muscular-fascial tension.
This triggers so-called alarm pain, which warns the brain of damage. One-sided use of the muscles leads to tension and shortening. This triggers a reaction pattern in the brain, which subsequently manifests itself as pain and blockages in the muscles and fasciae. During treatment, the "signal point" (pain point) is sought and manual impulses are applied directly to the bone using the special osteopressure technique. They command the brain to reorganize the movement sequences at maximum speed, to "let go" of the pain, so to speak, and to create space again for optimal function and movement. After the osteopressure technique, the muscles must be stretched in order to program and store the new pattern in the brain. The patient must repeat these stretches regularly at home, otherwise the body will immediately fall back into its familiar, old pattern.
Pattern detachment
The release of patterns through detachment
We often live through "prohibition patterns" and "can't do patterns", such as not allowing ourselves to say "NO" or not being able to say "NO". These often massively restrict us in life and influence our actions.
We are often not really aware of these patterns. Through your own knowledge and my sensitivity, I can recognize them and release them with your help. This allows you to find your strength and authenticity.
A lot of things suddenly happen by themselves
The sensitive life advice
The objective guide...
What is sensitivity? Sensitivity is a collective term for the ability to "perceive" with all the senses. It is often described as a psychic ability or extrasensory perception. Everyone is sensitive, i.e. perceptive, sensitive, compassionate, sensitive. Sensitivity is therefore nothing out of the ordinary. For me, sensitivity is the sixth sense that everyone has from birth, just like the other five senses: hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Not everyone has these to the same degree. This also applies to sensitivity, i.e. the sixth sense.
In our lives, we come across stumbling blocks time and again. Some are familiar, as we encounter them again and again, while others are new and make us feel like we can't overcome them.
In this form of therapy, I read information that surrounds your body (in the aura) and in which your entire life is stored.
With this information, I can explain your "stumbling block" to you and show you ways in which you can avoid or overcome it in order to successfully continue on your path in life.
The energetic treatment
The balancing treatment...
Energetic blockages occur when the body, mind and soul are no longer in harmony, i.e. the mind and emotions no longer work together. The energetic treatment releases physical and mental blockages in the body and soul system. This allows the energy to flow again.
The body and mind relax and the person can recover.
If you often feel "blocked", I recommend a sensitive life coaching session to help you identify the cause of the blockage and guide you back onto the flowing path.
