Description
Malcantonese Old People's Home
The Malcantonese Old People's Home was opened in October 1939 thanks to the charitable work of Mr. and Mrs. Giovanni and Giuseppina Rossi. It underwent a complete renovation in 1987.
It is located in Castelrotto, a charming village in Malcantone, surrounded by greenery and nature typical of the region.
By statute, it welcomes mainly elderly people domiciled in the municipalities of Malcantone.
It is recognized in the planning of Ticino's elderly homes with a total of 105 beds, subsidized by the State, 90 for permanent residents divided into 26 single rooms and 32 double rooms, as well as 15 beds for acute transitional care (CAT) and temporary therapeutic stays (STT).
In February 2005, a specific department called "Protected Housing Unit" was created within the facility reserved for permanent residents for people with cognitive problems and/or behavioral problems.
In 2018, the Oasis of Care was inaugurated, an experimental facility that will accommodate bedridden patients within an open space where the presence of a caregiver is guaranteed to respond to the residents' need for care and attention.
It is governed by a nonprofit foundation.
It is a member of the Association of Directors of Homes for the Elderly in Italian-speaking Switzerland (ADICASI), the Association of Municipalities in Social and Health Care (ACAS) and Curaviva Switzerland.
For several years, the Malcantonese Home for the Elderly has been a training company for various professional figures.
In tune with the Malcantonese Home for the Elderly, in the same facility, also operates the Malcantonese Hospital.
The Institute's philosophy is based on the following cornerstones:
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
All employees operate with respect for the dignity of the individual and the uniqueness of life, especially observing ethical principles in the four areas of responsibility:
to the Resident and people close to them
to themselves and the profession
to the members of the working group
to society and the 'environment
QUALITY
The level of quality of performance is set by the Management respecting the directives issued by the competent bodies.
Every employee must be committed to the development and realization of this goal.
Quality means the willingness to work according to a concept of continuous improvement of the services offered.
COLLABORATION AND MULTI-, INTER- AND TRANS-DISCIPLINARY WORK
The spirit of collaboration among the different professional figures (both internal and external) and the involvement of family members and/or persons significant to the resident, are promoted in order to foster a multidisciplinary taking care of the resident which ensures a better quality of care outcomes.
Networking with services on the ground is encouraged.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
Communication, information and acting consistently, accurately and on time are basic to the creation of a transparent environment, leading to sharing and the development of a sense of community.
HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND VALORIZATION
Personnel represent a fundamental human potential for institutional growth.
Respect for and enhancement of personal characteristics and aptitudes are cultivated for individual and professional development and strengthen autonomy and self-actualization.
Continuing education, both internal and external, constitutes one of the indispensable elements for the development of such resources.
OTTIMIZATION OF RESOURCES
The Institute wishes to contribute to the containment of health care costs through the optimal use of available resources in accordance with the criteria of efficiency and effectiveness, with a keen eye on the environmentally friendly conduct of activities.
