Description
Villa Santa Maria
Villa Santa Maria
24-hour health care, temporary rehabilitative stays, long-term care, quality hotel accommodations.
Private residence recognized by Canton Ticino and health insurers, affiliated with the Social Institutes of the city of Lugano and the municipalities of Lugano and other districts of the Canton.
The facility has 85 beds and is part of the cantonal social-health network for the care and assistance of the elderly or those with disabling diseases and is the only medicalized home in Ticino with a department dedicated to people with Parkinson's disease.
Villa Santa Maria is located in Savosa, on the outskirts of Lugano, in a quiet and sunny setting. The house, characterized by an early 20th-century white turret, is surrounded by a large and lush garden. Inside, it houses a Catholic chapel with stained glass windows by Fra' Roberto Pasotti.
The residence has single and double rooms, with or without terrace, all sunny and with panoramic views, equipped with multi-purpose bed and bedside table, calling device, bathroom, cable TV, direct-dial telephone and internet connection.
The new rooms in the Parkison department are structured with complements for targeted care for the disorders of the disease and with motion detectors.
Parkinson's ward unique in Ticino
Villa Santa Maria has developed a unique social-health offering in Ticino aimed at people who are no longer completely self-sufficient due to the developmental disorders of Parkinson's disease.
The new ward, opened in January 2015, is able to admit people in single or double rooms and offer care and treatment targeted to the difficulties of the disease, comfort and safety for quality of life and support for residual autonomy.
Admission can be for temporary stays (e.g., after an acute hospitalization or during the absence of a caring family member) or for long-term care (when the conditions for living at home are no longer met).
Assistance and care are provided by qualified caregivers and health personnel are based on a careful multidisciplinary assessment.
The resident is followed by the designated attending physician, benefits from individualized care, physiotherapy treatment, and specialized consultations (neurologist, geriatrician, etc.).
Quality care and treatment
The philosophy of care is based on attention to the person, quality of life and physical, mental, social, relational and spiritual needs.
The guest is constantly the center of social and health care intervention: in the different daily activities, in the care, medical and rehabilitative action, and in the promotion of relational and psychological well-being.
The care and nursing activities are carried out by a multi-professional team that, after careful assessment, formalizes an individual care plan aimed at:
fostering the person's physical and social-relational autonomy
stimulate residual abilities
manage the possible involutions found in the elderly person, the person with Parkinson's disease, and the person with a disability (e.g., alterations in cognitive abilities, motor disorders, balance)
guarantee comfort care in pain management
pay attention to the relational and spiritual sphere
accompany the person and his or her family in dealing with particularly delicate situations.
Animation
The sociocultural animation service carries out weekly programs of recreational-cultural, individual and group activities, considering both people's residual resources and their interests and desires. The aim is to make daily life enjoyable and stimulating.
Hotel services
Every guest, regardless of single or double room occupancy, enjoys the same food, housekeeping and laundry services.
Cleaning and laundry services
The care of the house, indoor and outdoor environments is a strong point of Villa Santa Maria's offer, which is particularly appreciated by guests and family members.
Cleaners of the rooms and collective spaces are operational 7 days a week.

House maintenance is carried out regularly.
