We worked for ABB Unifer AG at the Oerlikon base, a department that was mainly involved in parts production, prototyping and fixture construction, but also in service and maintenance for the entire Oerlikon plant. At the end of 2000, ABB Unifer AG decided to close the Oerlikon base  and we were given the opportunity to become independent with the existing inventory through a management buy-out.
We decided to seize this opportunity and so Universal Mechanic GmbH was founded on January 1, 2001.                                             
For structural reasons on the old ABB site in Oerlikon, we had to relocate, which we did at the end of 2001, beginning of 2002. Since then, we have been operating at our new location in Volketswil-Hegnau.
