Dr TRAN is a cardiologist specializing in cardiac rhythm disorders. A graduate of the University of Lausanne, he completed his training in internal medicine and cardiology in Philadelphia (Hahnemann Unversity Hospital) and Geneva (HUG and Hôpital de la Tour), then completed a fellowship in rhythmology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He has worked as a university senior physician in Berne and Lausanne. He is currently a registered physician at Lausanne University Hospital.

In cases of cardiac arrhythmia, heartbeats become irregular, they are too slow, too fast or the next heartbeat occurs too soon.

Tachycardia, also happens to healthy people that their heart makes an extra beat from time to time.

A warning sign of a heart attack, The most common cause of a heart attack is a blocked heart vessel (coro- nary artery) that impedes the blood supply.

How is cardiac arrhythmia treated?

Depending on the type of arrhythmia, medication, a pacemaker or defibrillator can restore the heart's rhythm. In the case of atrial fibrillation, it can help to fight excess weight, keep fit and avoid alcohol. Ablation treats the electrical conduction system that sends the wrong signals. This is done using a catheter inserted from the groin and routed to the heart.
