We are where you are
Accessible, spacious practices in Lucerne, Altdorf, Sursee, Wohlen and Wolhusen
Your well-being is important to us: our four practice locations are centrally and conveniently located and easily accessible for you. Our ophthalmology practices and the ARGUS Augen medical teams will be happy to welcome, advise and treat you in our bright, modern and friendly premises in Lucerne, Sursee, Altdorf or Wohlen
Everything to do with general ophthalmology
At all practice locations
Our medical teams and their assistants offer you the full range of general ophthalmology services at all four of our locations in Lucerne, Sursee, Altdorf and Wohlen: whether you need new glasses, a third opinion or one of our modern diagnostic methods for the early detection and treatment of defective vision or eye diseases. Fast appointments, short waiting times, personal advice and support are our strengths.
Emergency care
At all practice locations
If you are affected by an emergency, every minute counts and particularly short distances: all four of our practice locations in Lucerne, Sursee, Altdorf and Wohlen give you the security of receiving fast and targeted emergency care and treatment in the event of an ophthalmological emergency. We are there for you in the event of an eye injury, sudden loss of vision or other situations that you perceive as acute and threatening.
Determination of glasses and measurement of your visual acuity
At all practice locations
Visual acuity and lenses must be precisely matched. To do this, our opticians not only check your distance and near vision, but also examine your eye muscle balance and measure any corneal curvature. Our opticians will determine your exact spectacle prescription manually using the fitting spectacles. We determine the refractive power of the eyes using computer-aided measuring methods. You then wear a pair of trial glasses. This gives us the final certainty as to which glasses you really need: near or distance glasses, bifocals, trifocals or varifocals.
Preventive eye examinations
At all practice locations
As is the case everywhere in medicine, prevention is better than cure in ophthalmology. Regularly checking your eye health for defective vision and possible eye diseases offers you optimum protection for your eyes well into old age. Our team of doctors therefore recommends a preventive eye examination every three years. Our preventive examinations at all four of our locations in Lucerne, Sursee, Altdorf and Wohlen include a comprehensive screening of your eyes: an eye test, measurement of intraocular pressure, check of the front and back of the eye, squint test and filter test for early detection of any changes in your visual system. Age-related or pathological impairments to your eye health, such as defective vision, glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure), cataracts (clouding of the lens of the eye) or macular degeneration (deterioration of the photoreceptors on the retina), can often be detected and treated at an early stage.
General, modern eye diagnostics
At all practice locations
Thanks to state-of-the-art eye diagnostics, our medical teams can now diagnose and treat age-related and pathological impairments to your eye health at an early stage. This means that treatment can be started at an early stage, which is more promising, more cost-efficient and less time-consuming. General, modern eye diagnostics include:
- Back-of-eye examinations: Retinal imaging for the early diagnosis of optic nerve, macular and retinal diseases
- Field of vision measurements (perimetry): The measurement of the 180 degree field of vision by means of projection and the detection of light points
- Diagnosis of color vision deficiencies: Early detection of green vision deficiency, red-green vision deficiency
Specific, modern eye diagnostics: OCT, fluorescein angiography, HRT
At all practice locations
Thanks to the constant development of diagnostic methods in ophthalmology, age-related and pathological changes to your eye health can now be detected and treated at an ever earlier stage. We offer you the most modern diagnostic and treatment methods of an eye clinic:
OCT examination (optical coherence tomography): A computer scan is used to examine the retinal layers of your eyes for the diagnosis and early detection of eye diseases
Fluorescein angiography: is an imaging procedure for diagnosing diseases of the fundus of the eye. With the pupil dilated with medication, the flooding and distribution of a suitable dye in the vascular system of the eye is documented, which serves as a contrast agent. This allows vascular anomalies and diseases of the eye (e.g. ocular thrombosis) to be detected and treated at an early stage. Vascular abnormalities of the eye are often associated with diabetes.HRT measurements: is an ophthalmologic, laser-based diagnostic procedure for examining the cornea and certain areas of the retina. The most commonly used area of application for HRT is the inspection of the optic disc for the early detection and follow-up of glaucoma
Children's consultation/vision school for children with defective vision
At all practice locations
It is particularly important to detect visible or hidden strabismus in children, impaired spatial vision or angle vision defects at an early stage. Untreated defective vision in childhood can lead to a lifelong visual impairment, which may also affect the choice of profession.
In our vision school, our orthoptists examine visual acuity, eye mobility, the cooperation of both eyes (spatial vision) and the squint angle. Other symptoms and complaints such as double vision and eye tremors are also clarified here. Our medical team recommends that you have abnormalities such as squinting, head misalignment, eye tremors, headaches, reading disorders or squinting of your child's eyes examined. A regular, preventive check-up is also recommended for children with a family history of strabismus, such as those who wear glasses or have a family history of strabismus.
Driver's license vision test
At all practice locations
At all four of our locations in Lucerne, Sursee, Altdorf and Wohlen, we offer to determine and check your daytime visual acuity and other visual functions (visual field, eye mobility, color vision, spatial vision), specially tailored to the ophthalmological requirements of an eye test for obtaining a driver's license.
Contact lens consultation, fitting and adaptation
At all practice locations
We inform, advise and adjust you individually to your contact lenses. After carefully examining your eyes, we will find the right contact lens materials and types for you. For optimum visual performance and wearing comfort, it is essential to take general and specific corneal curvatures and other pathological eye changes into account in addition to defective vision. Our team of doctors recommends that you visit your eye doctor every six months for check-ups for soft contact lenses and once a year for rigid contact lenses. If you experience redness or pain, please see your ophthalmologist immediately.
Laser treatment for retinal changes
At all practice locations
Once a pathological change in the retina has been diagnosed, we offer treatment of peripheral retinal tears and retinal degeneration using an argon laser at all four locations
.
Laser treatment for secondary cataracts
At all practice locations.
We are proud of this:
Operative treatment of cataracts
Cataract or cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye. Such clouding can be congenital or develop at any age due to accidents, as a side effect of medication or as part of general illnesses. By far the most common, however, is age-related cataracts, which develop slowly as an expression of the natural ageing process. Depending on its form and severity, cataracts can cause various symptoms, mainly reduced visual acuity, fog-like blurred vision, increasing short-sightedness with age, increased glare and shadowy double vision. In most cases, the clouded lens is surgically replaced with an artificial lens implant.
Surgical treatment of glaucoma
Glaucoma is not a single disease, but a group of diseases. What they all have in common is that the optic nerve is increasingly damaged as the disease progresses. This leads to a progressive restriction of the visual field. Risk factors for the development of glaucoma are increased intraocular pressure, ageing, a family history or diabetes. The central concern in the surgical treatment of glaucoma is to reduce the intraocular pressure. The ARGUS Augen medical team recommends: From the age of 40, have regular examinations by an ophthalmologist for early detection of glaucoma.
Intravitreal injections
This is the direct administration of a medication or a liquid or suspension into the vitreous body of the eye. Intravitreal injections are often used to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Outpatient retinal and vitreous surgery (pars plana vitrectomy)
We are proud to be the first ophthalmology practice in central Switzerland to be able to perform outpatient microsurgery on the retina and vitreous body at our surgery location in Lucerne. Thanks to state-of-the-art surgical technology and intensive, personal care, you can save yourself an inpatient stay in hospital. All types of retinal and vitreous surgery are performed by our experienced team of specialists under the direction of Dr. Steffen H. Schicke and Dr. Bernhard Amerian. All diseases affecting the retina and vitreous body of the eye are treated microsurgically here, in particular retinal detachment, retinal changes in diabetes mellitus, arterial and venous vascular occlusion, peripheral retinal degeneration, vitreous detachment and clouding as well as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Medically indicated eyelid surgery
At our practice location in Lucerne, the medical team also corrects medical indications. This includes eyelid diseases and eyelid malpositions that are not only cosmetically desirable but also medically necessary. The most common are Inflammatory or pathological changes to the eyelid, inward rolling of the lower eyelid (entropion), outward tilting of the lower eyelid (ectropion), tearing due to tilting of the lacrimal drainage point, drooping of the upper eyelid due to muscle/tendon disorders.
Cosmetic and aesthetic eyelid surgery
At our practice location in Lucerne, our team of doctors operates on the most common aesthetic eyelid malpositions. In the case of cosmetic eyelid malpositions, surgical correction is aesthetically desirable but not medically necessary. Cosmetic eyelid corrections are usually performed for: Drooping eyelids, drooping eyelids, "puffy eyes" and "bags under the eyes".
Conjunctival surgery, ophthalmic surgery
The conjunctiva separates the cornea from the outside. It is a mucous membrane that is transparent and relatively thin. It is only loosely attached to the eyeball. At the edges, it is firmly attached to the eyelids. At our practice location in Lucerne, our team of doctors operates on pathological conjunctival changes. The most common disease of the conjunctiva is infectious conjunctivitis or conjunctivitis.
Cup surgery
At our practice location in Lucerne, our medical team surgically corrects misalignments of the eyeball. The aim of the operation is to move the eyeballs into a position in which spatial vision is possible again without any problems (functional indication) or the eye position is cosmetically satisfactory (cosmetic indication).
ARTISAN/ARTIFLEX lens implantations
These permanent lens implants are implanted at our Lucerne site by specially qualified ophthalmologists. The Artisan and Artiflex lenses are ultra-thin contact lenses. They are implanted in the eye to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and cylinder deviations. The lenses are attached to the iris with two clips and remain permanently in the eye. Artisan and Artiflex lenses are designed for all those who attach great importance to sharp and clear vision but do not want to be dependent on glasses or contact lenses. The advantages of this method are the safe surgical method, effective handling (no need to change lenses), excellent improvement in vision, even with severe deviations in the plus and minus range, as well as the reversibility of the treatment.
Astigmatic keratotomy
In astigmatic keratotomy, the ARGUS Eye team at the Lucerne site operates on so-called astigmatism. Also known as astigmatism, a particular refractive error of the eye. In this surgically refractive procedure, deep, usually paired incisions are used to reduce high, regular corneal curvatures.
Clear lens exchange (early cataract surgery)
In the case of particularly high ametropia or a corneal thickness that is too thin for laser correction, laser correction of the ametropia alone is no longer the ideal solution. As part of this so-called lens replacement surgery, the body's own lens is replaced with an artificial lens. This type of complete lens replacement is particularly recommended in cases of high farsightedness or age-related lens opacities. This procedure takes our experienced ArgusAugen surgeons no longer than 15 minutes and is usually performed under local anesthesia.
