How does mold develop?
Mold spores are something completely natural and are transported through the air in our environment. Three things are needed for mold to develop and for the spores to multiply:
- Humidity
- Warmth
- a breeding ground
If all these conditions are met, this is an "optimal" habitat for a mold spore and it spreads very quickly. In living spaces such as the bathroom or kitchen, moisture is created through their use, which can lead to the formation of mold.
This is usually caused by indirect humidification through condensation that collects on the cold wall surface. This is why basements are often affected by mold, as they usually have no windows and colder temperatures.
Increased humidity in living spaces can have various causes:- Leaky walls
- Damaged roofs, gutters and the like
- Burst pipes
- Inadequate or incorrect ventilation
- Insulation that is too tight
- Condensation in cold spots in the room
- Unbalanced heat distribution due to thermal bridges
Is mold dangerous?
Mould produces toxins that can easily spread through the air. Inhaling the toxins can cause symptoms of poisoning in humans, such as headaches and difficulty concentrating. However, not everyone reacts in the same way; some people have no symptoms at all, while others experience severe sensory disturbances and suffer from severe fatigue.
In principle, mold is not toxic to humans per se, but if you are exposed to a large amount of mold over a long period of time, this can certainly result in physical reactions. However, the potential risk should be determined by a professional, as this is very difficult for a layperson to assess. A professional analysis with an expert is certainly recommended.Request an analysis nowTypes of mold in the house and apartment
Green mold
Occurs: frequently on damp walls and ceilings, often in damp rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens, joints and poorly ventilated areas such as under floor coverings or behind wall coverings
Health: Not very harmful to animals and humans, but has an immunocompromising effect, can trigger allergies, asthma and headaches, spores can infest lung tissue and cause lasting damage
Black mold
Occurrence: can form from numerous types of mold, occurs particularly with moisture problems in or on walls, wallpaper, plastered walls and ceilings as well as tile joints
Health: Extremely toxic to humans, causes various illnesses from allergies to severe kidney disease and stachybotryosis (comparable to Alzheimer's disease)
White mold
Occurs: rather inconspicuous and difficult to detect, especially on light-colored wall paints and plaster, therefore often remains undetected for a long time. Often occurs in ceiling or floor corners, niches, behind furniture on exterior walls, in cellars and generally in cold, unheated and damp rooms.
Health: irritates mucous membranes, can lead to sinusitis, frequent colds, skin diseases, coughs, chronic bronchitis or joint pain
Red mold
Occurs: on paper wallpaper, in the bathroom, toilet and kitchen
Health: May cause lung diseases such as asthma
Yellow mold
Occurrence: Can occur anywhere in the apartment or house, but prefers damp corners, cotton fabrics and upholstered furniture.
Health: Very dangerous to health, the toxin aflatoxin can cause liver cancer and heart failure in humans

Mould infestations - before / after
Mold infestation levels
Stage
1. mold is usually first noticed on joints in the bathroom or on windows. On the walls, it is usually no bigger than a hand. The best way to remove mold here is with water and cleaning agent or mold remover.
Stage2. the mold has spread to a larger wall surface or the ceiling. Usually only one area in the room is affected. The area is smaller than half a square meter
.Tip: The cause of the mold infestation should be determined by a specialist so that the fungus can be removed professionally.
Stage
3.the fungus appears over a large area (more than half a square meter) or even in several places in the room. There is a persistent smell of mold
.Recommendation: Contact a mold expert immediately so that the mold infestation does not spread further.
How do I get rid of mold again?
Mold analysis
In the case of mold infestation, it is essential that the cause of the mold infestation is found first. Only after a comprehensive analysis of the walls, where moisture and heat are measured, can it be determined how and why the fungus has developed. Sustainable removal of the mold can only be guaranteed once the exact cause has been clarified.
After evaluating the results, you will receive a detailed report on the mold findings. We will also suggest further measures to remedy the damage and provide you with a list of the expected costs.Professional & ecological mold removalIt's not just the mold itself that can endanger your health, but also the way it is combated. This is because many conventional mold removal products are often toxic or too aggressive. This not only pollutes the indoor air, but can also lead to health problems during use or recurring fungal infestation.
Professional removal with ecological products is recommended for a satisfactory, safe and mold-free result. Are your living or working spaces infested with mold? Then arrange a consultation with us!

Remediation after mold infestation
Before remediation can be carried out, the causes must be identified and remedied by analyzing the fungal infestation. This is the only way to achieve a long-term and sustainable result. However, mold remediation does not just mean killing the mold, but also removing it.
The necessary measures are initiated depending on the case and severity of the fungal infestation. These include ecological measures such as preventing the formation of spores, visual measures such as bleaching the infestation, removing the mold from the infested substance and preventing a new mold infestation. How much does mold remediation cost?
Costs for mold infestation analysis
(with/without expert opinion)
After an on-site consultation, a mold report will be prepared at your request. This costs between CHF 280 and CHF 360
.An analysis with an expert opinion, which we prepare in six to seven hours, including five pages of documentation, costs between Fr. 900.- Fr. 1000.-.
Costs for mold removal
The larger the fungal infestation, the more expensive the removal. The size of a fungal infestation includes the entire area on which the fungal spores have spread. This can also affect furniture and curtains.
The more surface area is affected, the more material is needed to remove it. One of our experts will be happy to take a look at your mold infestation and provide you with a cost estimate.

Costs for mold remediation
With mold removal, not only is the fungus usually removed, but walls also have to be repainted, tiles relaid or walls replastered. This is done with the intention of preventing future fungal infestations.
It may be that we discover further mold infestation during the renovation, but this only happens if no mold report has been prepared in advance. In this case, the actual costs may differ from the quotation provided. The cost of mold remediation depends on the severity and type of fungal infestation as well as the duration of the remediation. Costs from Fr. 1900.- and upwards are to be expected. How do I avoid mold?
Tips for mold prevention
How to ventilate properly
Windows should be fully opened 3 to 5 times a day for 5 to 6 minutes depending on the amount of moisture (cross ventilation). This removes a lot of humidity in a short space of time without losing a lot of heating energy. Additional ventilation is recommended after cooking, after showering and bathing and after using the laundry room. Excessive ventilation cools the walls unnecessarily and promotes the formation of mold. Moist indoor air should not be directed into other rooms, but directly to the outside. You can find more information on ventilation and the different types of mold here.
