Pro Senectute Valais-Wallis is a private non-profit foundation with no political or religious affiliations.
Historically speaking, the Valais branch came into being on April 14, 1929, 12 years after the creation of Pro Senectute Switzerland, founded in 1917. At that time, the First World War was coming to an end and there was no old-age provision. Life expectancy was just approaching 55. People had to work "until the end". It was against this backdrop that ten men set up the Pro Senectute foundation in Switzerland, under the aegis of the Swiss Society of Public Utility. Together, they wanted to improve living conditions for the elderly in our country.
Today, the story continues, and Pro Senectute Switzerland and its cantonal sections are still moving forward alongside seniors. In Valais, the story is made possible by the commitment of nearly 50 staff members and the involvement of almost 1,300 volunteers.
