The waste management of the Maloja region is responsible for the environmentally sound collection, recycling and disposal of waste generated in the region.

The waste management of the Maloja region is responsible for:

• processing municipal waste and recyclable materials from the affiliated municipalities
• processing all household waste generated in the region for onward transportation to the waste incineration plant in Niederurnen (KVA) 
• the recycling, storage, disposal and landfilling of all other waste accepted
• informing and educating the public about the reduction of waste volumes and the sensible recycling of waste

The Maloja region's waste management department operates its own Cho d'Punt waste management plant in Samedan and the Sass Grand reactor landfill in Bever to fulfill its tasks. Individual tasks have been transferred to external companies (collection service).

Recycling:

• In the individual municipalities, there are collection concepts that include recycling. Waste management in the Maloja region is responsible for recyclable waste, commercial waste and the management of hazardous waste.
• Bernina Recycling AG is responsible for the acceptance and management of all bulky construction waste generated in the region.
New at the Sass Grand Bever landfill site: Ecoisellas GmbH is responsible for accepting and managing green waste from the Maloja region.
