Description
Welcome to the parish of Richterswil
The Protestant Reformed Church in Richterswil is located in the heart of our village, close to the Paracelsus Hospital. (Bergstrasse)
The first church in Richterswil, dedicated to St. Martin, was first mentioned in 1265. The predecessor building of today's church can be seen on numerous vedutas . In 1902-1905, the current building was erected on a hill above the village by Jaques Kehrer
The church has a floor plan of a Greek cross typical of the reformed church building of historicism around this time, as it was envisaged in the Wiesbaden program . Large tracery windows in the main façade and in the side arms of the church buttresses and finials reinforce the Gothicizing impression of the building. The high tower with pointed spire and lash genes for the clock faces corresponds to a popular design on Lake Zurich. The polygonal choir is flanked by two staircases for the gallery entrances
A circumferential gallery fills all four arms of the cross. The richly carved pulpit in neo-Gothic style and the pews of the church are made of dark wood. The walls and gallery balustrades are decorated with painted plant tendrils. The large rose windows contain ornamental stained glass as well as images of Christ (south-east) and the reformers Huldrych Zwingli (north-east) and Martin Luther (south-west).
The main organ, built by Kuhn AG Orgelbau Kuhn AG in 1971, is located in the south-eastern arm of the cross, which extends into the choir. The instrument has 42 stops on three manuals and pedal.
Two further organs (positive after Matthäus Abbrederis 1717 and chest organ by Ferdinand Stemmer) are also available on the premises.
Church is a place where we can still be human today. Where we can breathe a sigh of relief and draw strength. Where we can learn to respect each other in all our differences and thus meet as human beings.
We travel together and discover phases of life as opportunities. We invite you to enjoy time, to perceive the rhythm of life differently, not to be alone. Community, cultural and social activities for all age groups enable us to deepen our knowledge and create contacts. Get in touch with us. We look forward to a call from you.
