The Municipality of Blenio came into existence on October 22, 2006 with the elections of the City Hall and the Municipal Council after the aggregation of the 5 municipalities of Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone, Olivone and Torre was decreed by the Grand Council on January 25, 2005.

The municipality's coat of arms has a red background, depicts in the center the blue-colored river, an element present in all five former municipalities, and on the sides five yellow-colored circles that serve as the symbol of the municipalities aggregated in 2006.

The Municipal Secretary is in charge of the Chancery and General Administration: he directs, supervises, and coordinates the administrative work for which he is responsible by law, according to the Municipal Regulations, or at the request of the City Hall or the Mayor.
