Description
Joinery Kaswig Dirk
About me
I started as a cabinetmaker in 1983 and have been working in my profession ever since. After a few years in the classic carpentry trade, I expanded my knowledge and skills in various specialist companies in the restoration of antique furniture.
In 2000, I successfully completed my training as a furniture restorer at the Association of Master Carpenters in Lucerne. I have been self-employed as a sole trader in the Basel area since 2004.I combine craftsmanship with curiosity and creativity. All work is carried out by me personally, which means that the solutions discussed and developed with you are implemented precisely and bindingly.
The fascination for wood as a raw material is just as strong for me today as it was at the beginning of my career as a carpenter. The construction of a piece of furniture often begins with the selection of suitable, appealing boards in the sawmill. For me, this process is the creative act of designing and creating a unique piece of furniture.
I am inspired by the color, character and structure that characterize the respective tree. When making furniture, I prefer regional types of wood (cherry, walnut, plum, pear, apple), which I either have in stock in my extensive warehouse in Münchenstein or purchase from wood dealers. When restoring antique furniture, I show great respect for the original builder and his craftsmanship. To preserve the magic of an old piece, I pay attention to its character and appearance right from the start. I only use products that were used in the original manufacture, such as bone and hide glues, shellac, varnish, saw veneers, antique wood, etc.
My creativity, love of experimentation and experience help me to research and implement the sometimes forgotten or undocumented working techniques and material compositions.
A piece of furniture should give you pleasure for a long time. Every order goes through a process between me and the customer from the initial inquiry to completion. As a customer, you should be able to contribute your ideas regarding design, costs or scope. I will be happy to advise you with my specialist knowledge if you have any uncertainties or unanswered questions.
