History of the Hôtel du Marché

It was in the early 1970s that my grandmother, Claudine Gloor, acquired the building with her husband Jean Gloor, they both worked hard to transform the faded old apartments into modern studios for the many students looking for accommodation in Lausanne.

The studios du marché were then in their heyday and my grandparents had the pleasure of hosting students from Europe and beyond, my grandmother who also spoke perfect German, Italian and English knew how to welcome these young people and the door to her apartment on the ground floor of the building remained open to meet the many requests of her clients - even today some of the students of the time visit me and are happy to know the rest of the story of the house and the family. Then, following health problems, they decided to put the business into management. During this period, some of the studios were converted into hotel rooms. The Studios du Marché became the Hôtel du Marché, and for many years it has welcomed guests from all over the world. In 2004, I was lucky enough to take over the business. My grandmother sadly passed away in September 2013, but I'm happy to continue writing the story she started. Today, the Hôtel du Marché still welcomes students from all walks of life who live here, customers passing through and also many regular customers who like to find here that special atmosphere of " comme à la maison  "which it is dear to my heart to perpetuate...
