Dear guests and friends of Restaurant Speck, the Windy Corner and the Garden Restaurant
Here, in the Speck (formerly in the Speck), peat was cut in the first half of the last century. To get here, the boggy paths were lined with tree trunks. Hence the name Speck (bacon). It is also assumed and rumored that a theater from the Roman past is located in the hill behind the hangar, hence the term spectacle. Although the first version seems more likely to be true.
Even before the Romans, the Celts passed through this area in pre-Christian times, as evidenced by the two burial mounds that still exist opposite Speck airfield in the forest.
In 1948, the Zürcher Oberland aviation sports group was founded, which moved its operations from Hittnau to Speck in 1953. The clubhouse became a restaurant, where my father Chrigi Kessler opened the Restaurant im Speck on April 1, 2000.
The restaurant was expanded in 2003 with a garden restaurant, a self-service kiosk (Windy Corner) and a playground. In 2015/16, the entire establishment was renovated and extended with a hall (Tynwald Tavern) for up to 60 people. In the meantime, 13 people work in the business during the summer season and 1-2 apprentices are trained at any one time.
Chrigi's aim was to create "ä glatti Beiz für alli", which he achieved with great dedication and enthusiasm.
Since his death in January 2020, his life's work has been carried on by the entire Speck team in his spirit.
Our aim is to make you feel at home as our guest, and we look forward to spoiling you with our culinary delights.
