The Château
The castle's known history dates back to the year 1003. It was a fortified house surrounded by a moat with two drawbridges, four square towers and a keep. Built on Burgundian ruins, which were themselves built on Roman remains, the castle burned down around 1600. Taking advantage of peace and security, part of the fortifications were used to extend the living quarters. The castle as it stands today has changed very little since 1600.
Having belonged to the Counts of Savoy, as well as to several families, it passed into Bernese hands for eight generations to the de Tavel family, then by marriage, in 1796, to the de Buren family.
My sons, Félix and Youri de Buren represent the seventh generation to live at the château.
