More information on cleaning with dry ice: 

Dry ice consists of frozen CO2  at a temperature of approx. -79 °C. Dry ice blasting utilizes the following physical properties: different material properties at temperature differences, gas expansion of dry ice on impact and the hardness of the blasting medium at different compressed air flow speeds.

The hardness of dry ice is around 2 mol (corresponds to the hardness of gypsum). Due to the acceleration of the compressed air, the dry ice achieves a 2 to 3 times higher hardness. The smaller the angle to the cleaning object, the more dry ice is brought between the dirt and the cleaning object, thereby blasting off the dirt.
